From a young age, Neil Nayyar has shown an incredible curiosity to learn to play various instruments from around the world. The script for Neil's path to musical exploration started writing itself from the time his parents would play Mozart for him to listen to, while he was still in the womb. When Neil was six, his parents signed him up for a drum class and his ability to pick up an instrument so freely and play so comfortably was a revelation. The journey has since led him on a trail-blazing path to learn and play over a hundred instruments.

Neil’s debut album, “Breaking Barriers” released on Oct 29, 2024 reveals his groundbreaking talent. The seven tracks in this album showcase Neil’s joyous exploration of music from many cultures. The album contains all originals with five tracks composed by Neil and his mentor and album producer Prasanna, and two tracks written by Neil, Prasanna, and Raquela Burt. The magnum opus is undoubtedly the track, "Exploring Worlds," in which Neil plays all 107 instruments!

Neil drew inspiration for his ground-breaking album from Prince, who featured 27 instruments on his album “For You”. As Neil said, "If Prince can do it, so can I!" It was this ambition, coupled with his adoration and dedication of many hours a day to practice, that led to his success.
The album not only showcases his technical prowess but also his ability to integrate so many musical traditions from India, China, The Middle East, America, Europe, and Latin America and encapsulate them into one album. “Breaking Barriers” is arranged and produced by his mentor, the globally acclaimed guitarist and composer Prasanna who himself is a renowned visionary Indian artist known for his musical innovations.

“Breaking Barriers” is a testament to Nayyar’s ability to transcend genres and cultures, creating a musical tapestry that blends Indian classical and folk music, Arabic music, Chinese music, electronica, jazz, pop and a lot more. The album celebrates the power of music to bring people together through songs and instrumentals that feature Neil singing and playing 107 instruments from around the world.
